Archaeological surveys carried out in the area to be affected by the planned constructions of the llisu Dam and the hydroelectric power plant (HES) projects on theTigris River revealed the cultural wealth of the region. Part of the works that were initiated in the framework of the "Convention Concerning the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage" ratified by Turkey on 14 April 1982 with the Act no. 2658 were conducted on the 1600 hectares expropriation area where the constructions of the body of the dam, the State Hydraulic Works Compound and the hydroelectric power plant are planned. Surface analyses undertaken by our team in 2008 yielded 15 archaeological zones. Salvation excavations were carried out in four zones; the final reports concerning two zones are presented in the book.
