The archaeological research conducted within the area to be affected by the Ilısu Dam and Hydro-Electric Power Plant Project established
on the Tigris River, revealed the rich cultural heritage of the region. Since 1999 a salvage project is conducted in this area in the frame of Turkey’s Law Nr. 2658 in 14 April 1982, regarding the “Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage”. An area of ca. 1600 ha within the construction area of the Ilısu Dam, the campus of the State Hydraulic Works and the Hydro-Electric Power Plant was surveyed, and 15 archaeological sites were discovered in 2008. Excavations are carried out at five of these sites, and the final reports of two sites are published in this band
