The work examines the literary and archaeological works in order to understand a view on the violence in war in Athens of 6th and 5th centuries BCE. The study starts with the depictions of the Iliad and Iliupersis, which are found extensively in the Attic vase pictures. Due to the increase in the number of finds recently, it is now possible to use statistical methods. The study has yielded that the depiction of war - in the pictures and in evaluation - is not the same at all times. The same point is valid for the other warriors and civilians - the victims of war.
