Maps of Istanbul/ Constantinopel mainly drawn by English, French, German and Russian cartographers...
Accompanying each map drawn by these different nationals, in addition to the narratives about these maps, the story of that nation and their relations with the Turks is also told chronologically. The book also covers special maps and commentaries for Italian, Greek, Armenian, Hungarian and Swedish maps of Istanbul/ Constantinopel as well as Ottoman maps, including many aspects of their intricate historical relations.
The collecting phase of these maps took more than 20 years in which more than 50 cities’ national libraries, libraries of universities and municipalities, many museums and private collections were visited, special permissions obtained, some copies bought in auctions, yet some in digital forms. Then the narratives were prepared in an additional 5 years of research, survey and hard work.
