The present paper is a discussion of the archaeological evidence for interaction between the Jewish and Christian communities of late antique Rome and Ostia. Among the items of evidence taken into consideration the most important are the synagogue of Ostia, the Traditio legis mosaic in Santa Costanza in Rome, epigraphical and archaeological evidence for Jewish synagogues and Christian tituli in Rome, and epigraphical evidence for how language and religious symbols can be used as identity markers.
