While Tatar reformism has attracted many scholars, its religious aspect has been neglected. This study, therefore, is primarily concerned with the revivalist aspect of the Tatar renaissance and effectiveness of the reformist Tatar ulama in the transitional period of Tatar society. The work is divided into titles of religious ideology and identity; intellectual awakening; reforming the religious faith; reforming the schooling system; political and national evolution; with an appendix of biographies of people mentioned in the study, the program of the union of the Muslims in Russia; and the all-Russian Muslim congress' decision regarding Muslim women.
