This publication presents the results of the research conducted on the Propylaia by William Dinsmoor, who began his study in 1908, and William Bell Jr., who took up the study in 1962. Part 2 combines their work and is the first complete and exhaustive documentation of the innovative and unique structure which serves as a monumental entrance to the Athenian Acropolis. The authors describe the building in minute detail, virtually block by block, and include much information that is no longer accessible on the site because of restoration, weathering, or loss by other means. Part 1, "The Design" describes the architect Mnesikles' planning of the building during the course of its construction. Part 2 gives the complete account of Mnesikles' finished building, complemented by William Dinsmoor Jr's drawings.
