Since 1993 Heath W. Lowry has been the Atatürk Professor of Ottoman & Modern Turkish Studies at Princeton University. Prior to that time he was a founding member of the History Department at the Bosporus University in İstanbul (1973-1980),and a Senior Research Associate al Harvard University's Dumbarton Oaks Research Library & Colleetion in Washington. D.C. (1980-1983)

Between 1983 and 1993 he established and directed the Institute Turkish Studies in Washington D.C Currently,togelher with his position at Princeton University, he serves as an Advisor lo Enver Yücel, the Chairman of the Babçeşehir University Board of Trustees. İn January 2011 he joined the faculty of Bahçeşehir University as a Distinguished Visiting Professor.

Since 2005, Heath Lowry has traveled extensively in northern Greece. The preseni study is the outcome of those visits. Wherever fie has göne. he has been accompanied by Evliya Çelebi and his Seyahatname. As a result of those travels,he has published several books and numerous articles, all of which reflect the debt ıe owes the 17th century traveler. The present study is intended as his homage to Evliya Çelebi and to the rapidly disappearing Ottoman legacy in northern Greece.
