The course “World Cities” is one of the compulsory courses of the graduate program in ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN at BILGI UNIVERSITY; it was included in the program with the aim, on the one hand, of deepening experience and knowledge in modern architectural culture, and, on the other hand, of reinforcing knowledge in the major subjects of study, to wit, history of architecture and the modern city, by focusing on one of the cities that occupies the agenda in the world. The course is conducted throughout the academic year via seminars on a specific city and its architecture selected each year, and is concluded with a 10-day research and discovery excursion at the end of the academic year.


Research and discovery excursions carried out at the end of the academic year are sponsored by VitrA. Academicians and architects who constitute the educational staff of the program and our graduate students are present and conduct their programs in the selected city as guests of VitrA.

The materials in this book and the exhibition it accompanies were collected during the academic year 2007-2008 and the excursion made to London in July 2008.
