The majority of the papers presented at the symposium organized by the Marmara University Research Center for International Relations and held in March 1996 are collected in this volume. The articles critically deals with the premises and construction of the nation-state, its ideology and identity, and the state of citizenship within, thematically proceeding from historical evaluations to analysis of contemporary issues.
