Istanbul Modern's Time Present, Time Past - Highlights from 20 years of the International Istanbul Biennial exhibition catalogue reflects the transformation of the art scene in Istanbul and the role of the past Biennials within this change. Each curator has contributed an article about their experiences of the city, about how these related to the Biennial they curated and about their perspectives on the future. The catalogue examines the evolution of the Biennial over the past twenty years, and gives the views and perspectives of its Artistic Directors from past to present. As such it is an indispensable document about Biennials in general as well as a case history of the development of the Istanbul Biennial in particular.
