218 pp, b/w photos, hb, in German, as new.
First edition. Text in German (minimal text). Profusely illustrated with black and white photographs. Original grey cloth boards with titles stamped in white on spine (fine); photographically illustrated dust jacket (near fine, very light rubbing and a hint of soiling and age toning to edges). Gotthard Schuh (1897-1969) came from painting to photography in the 1930's. A founder of modern photo-reportage, he created a new photo vision, open to the subtle poetic atmosphere of everyday life. His friendship and photographs were important to the development a young Robert Frank. That Schuh traveled and photographed extensively is clear in the selections found in this terrific overview. An uncommon book in good condition.
